About Liege

Liege is the capital city of Belgium's Wallonia region. It is the third largest city in Belgium with a population of more than 187,000. The most important characteristic of Liege is that it is the cultural center of French-speaking Belgium. This port city is connected to  the Netherlands and Germany by a series of canals. There are also significant universities in this important steel manufacturing center of Europe.

Liege generally has a gloomy weather. It is sometimes said that the Crusades started in this city. The most important square of the city is St. Lambert. The Bishop’s Palace in this square is now used as a courthouse.
 
The streets of Liege are famous for its steps. There is a famous street with 374 steps in the neighbourhood of Montagne de Bueren. If you can climb those steps, the view of the city is marvelous.

The summers are cool, and the winters are cold in Liege. You can prefer spring or summer months to travel, however; the summer is a better option since it is rainier in the spring. You can travel around the city in one day since it is not very large. 

 

Transportation to Liege City Center from Airport

Liege Airport

You can take a taxi or rent a car to get from Liege Airport to the city center. For more economic transport options you can reserve a seat on the shuttle service with a previous reservation. The cheapest transport option is to take the public transport bus. There are also airport transfer services offered by some of the airports.

Car Rental

Hertz and Europcar have rental offices in the airport. You can get to the airport with the your rental car in around 15 minutes by taking the E25 highway.

Taxi

It’s possible to reach the centre in just 15 minutes under normal traffic conditions by taking one of the taxis that leave from in front of the bus terminal.

Shuttle Bus  

You can get to the center by paying 5 euro per person for the airport shuttles bus services. However this is only possible if you make a reservation 5 days beforehand. If you don’t reserve 5 days, and decide at the last minute, then you will need to pay 7 euro per person. Bus

You can reach the city centre by taking the bus line 53 from in front of the airport. If you’re going to a different place in the city then you can take the bus line TEC-57 to the main train station and get there in around 25 minutes. You can get to many different places in the city from here. But you should remember that this line doesn’t operate on weekends or holidays. The price for a bus ticket is 2.10 euro.

Hotel Service

Some of the hotels or places offering accommodation in the city have airport shuttle services. It’s possible to take advantage of these services by making reservations beforehand. The cost is usually little more than the cost for taking a taxi.
