Burgas is a port city, therefore an important part of the economy is derived from the tourism sector. The city’s golden sand coastline extending along the Black Sea attracts a lot of tourists, particularly those from EU countries. The city is reminiscent of a typical European city with its architecture, landscaping, preserved historic buildings, and tree-lined streets and avenues. The streets that best reflect the city’s historic nature are Aleksandrovska Street and Aleko Bogoridi Street. The Sea Garden, extending between Demokratsia Street and Burgas Beach, is a very popular park and recreation area. Other places worth visiting are the Burgas Opera House, Burgas Central Railway Station, and Burgas Central Post Office. Bulgaria’s unique small-town island that has a rich history dating back to the Greeks, Nesebar, also called the “Old City”, is 35 km away from Burgas.

Major sites to see in the city include the famous Aleksandrovska Street, also known as the Largo Street, the Compass, which is also known as ‘The Hub’ among locals and marks the 0 kilometer point of the city,  the Arch St. Nikolay, which is believed to give you health and good fortune when you walk underneath it, the Petro Zadorski gallery, which has around 2,000 statues on exhibit, and the Gramophone and cathedral, which are symbols of the city. The public beach, which is 2 km long, and Sunny Beach, which is frequented by celebrities and a more affluent crowd, are the most popular places to swim. Burgas has a temperate climate. The Burgas International Airport is located 10 km from the city center.
