Transportation to Airport from Accra City Center

Kotoka Intl. Airport

Kotoka International Airport is 9 kilometers from the center of Accra, the capital city and the economic, political and cultural center of Ghana at the same time, is at the service of the passengers. In the small airport you can find almost anything you might need before and after your flight. With a private passenger lounge, stores for shopping and places to eat, you can have an enjoyable time at Kotoka International Airport before you leave the city.

You can rent a car, take a taxi, or make benefit of your hotel's airport shuttle to reach the airport, which offers plenty of convenient and fairly comfortable alternatives for transportation from the city center. It's easy to find a taxi in the city. But before you take the taxi, you must negotiate the price with the drivers.

You may have to pay a much higher fare than you normally would have as taximeters are not available in taxis.

Car rental is one of the most comfortable alternatives in the city. You can also get to the airport from the city center of Accra by taking the airport shuttles that are available from almost every hotel in the city.

Bus

There is no bus line directly from the city center to the airport. Airport Information

Kotoka International Airport, which connects Ghana's capital city Accra to the major centers of Africa and the world, also holds an important place in the transportation network both in the city and the country. The airport, which is located 9 kilometers away from the city center, is also quite close to the city. Although it is not a very big airport, many services and comforts for passengers can be found here.

Kotoka International Airport hosts passengers with two terminals, Terminal 1 and Terminal 2, and there are restaurants, cafes, stores for shopping, an exchange office where you can make your foreign exchange transactions, and ATM machines for withdrawing cash and other banking transactions. You can visit Landing Restaurant, Aerostar or Twinsti Restaurant if you want to eat or drink while waiting for your plane. The airport also has a small clinic for emergencies and possible injuries and a parking lot for those arriving by car.

Taxi

Taxis are available 24/7 at the arrivals area of King Khalid International Airport. They are usually metered, but confirming the fare with the driver beforehand is recommended. Expect the journey to the city center to take approximately 25-30 minutes, depending on traffic conditions. Ride-hailing apps like Uber and Careem offer alternative options to taxis with designated ride-hailing pick-up zones near terminals.

Bus Services

Public buses connect the airport to various parts of Riyadh, including the city center. They typically operate during daytime hours, but schedules and routes should be confirmed at the airport information desk. Look for clearly marked bus stops at the arrivals area.

Metro

Riyadh metro system consists of six lines, connecting 85 stations. Line 4, or also known as the Yellow Line, runs from King Khalid International Airport to the King Abdullah Financial District (KAFD). Passengers opting for public transportation can use the metro, as it is available at the airport exits, and tickets can be obtained from machines at the station.

Rental Cars

Car rental agencies at the airport allow travelers to drive themselves to the city center. Ensure you have a valid international license and insurance. Parking is available at most hotels and key locations in Riyadh.

Hotel Shuttles

Many hotels in Riyadh provide shuttle services to and from the airport. Contact your hotel in advance to confirm pick-up arrangements and locations. These services are especially useful for first-time visitors.
