About Patna

Patna, the capital city of the Indian state of Bihar, is one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world, with a population of over 2 million residents as of 2023. Situated on the southern bank of the Ganges River, Patna is a city steeped in history, known for its ancient monuments, vibrant culture, and spiritual significance.

Patna experiences a humid subtropical climate with hot summers, a monsoon season, and mild winters. The best time to visit Patna is from October to March, when the weather is cooler and more pleasant, perfect for exploring the city’s historical sites and enjoying its cultural events.

The city is served by the Jay Prakash Narayan International Airport, located about 5 kilometers southwest of the city center. Major airlines like Emirates, Etihad Airways, Air India, and IndiGo operate connected flights from Abu Dhabi and Dubai to Patna, providing convenient access for travelers from the UAE.

Patna’s culinary scene offers a rich variety of traditional Bihari dishes and international cuisines. The city is famous for its litti chokha, a traditional dish made from wheat and roasted chickpea flour, along with other delicacies like sattu paratha, khaja, and tilkut. Street food lovers will find a plethora of snacks to enjoy, including samosas, chaat, and jalebis.

Tourists in Patna can explore a wealth of historical and cultural attractions. The Golghar, a massive granary built by the British in 1786, offers panoramic views of the city. The Patna Museum houses a rich collection of artifacts from the Mauryan and Gupta empires. The Mahavir Mandir, one of the most prominent temples in the city, attracts thousands of devotees. For those interested in history, the ruins of the ancient city of Pataliputra, once the capital of the Mauryan Empire, are a must-visit.

For those who enjoy outdoor activities, Patna offers scenic spots along the Ganges River, such as the Gandhi Ghat, where the evening Ganga Aarti takes place, offering a spiritual and peaceful experience. The Sanjay Gandhi Biological Park is another popular destination, perfect for a family outing or a leisurely walk amidst nature.

UAE nationals who have previously obtained an e-visa or a regular paper visa for India are eligible for a Visa-on-Arrival when they visit India again. However, this facility is not available to those visiting India for the first time, who must instead apply for an e-visa or a regular visa. To obtain a Visa-on-Arrival, eligible UAE nationals need to fill out an application form (Annexure I), which can be downloaded and completed in advance or filled out upon arrival in India.
